Hello! Here follows the journey of MASKE meetings…
In the beginning of the previous semester, during a conversation with Yasemin Hoca about the problems of FLE department, we realized that we constantly kept saying ‘The building is so aloof from the rest of the campus; we are in the Sincan Campus.’; ‘Students do not talk to people other than their cliques.’; ‘There is no activity out of the curriculum in our department.’ and so on. In other words, we were whining and we had always been whining about such problems since they day we came to the department.
Then, Yasemin Hoca asked why we were not doing anything to improve our department.
Seriously, we were not doing anything to improve our department.
We decided to held meetings every one or two weeks and talk about and share anything that comes to our mind via free association.
The name MASKE was chosen for meetings, since we believe that we come with a new look to each meeting and leave with a different outlook on the world around us. Afterwards, the first MASKE meeting was held in 8 November. This sharing has continued to this day with literature and movie discussions, talking about topics such as philosophy, psychology, sociology, religion, politics and culture. We have also organized city tours, fair excursions, and a new year’s party.
Our meetings included:
Literature Discussion: Shirley Jackson – The Lottery
City Tour: Ankara and Republic Era Architecrure
Literature Discussion: Edip Cansever – Bezik Oynayan Kadınlar
Fair Excursion: Ankara Germany Embassy – Weihnachts Bazaar
The New Year’s Party: MASKE’li Party in Big Bus
City Tour: Visiting Rahmi Koç Museum and Ankara Castle
Movie Discussion: Noviembre (2003)
and many other things along with those…
We hope that we continue our path with getting to know each other more, learning from each other more and appreciating the value of the ‘moment’ that we are sharing more. MASKE aims to change and make ourselves change by only keeping our sincere and warm atmosphere the same!
MASKE keeps growing with our friends and our teachers’ effort, support and- of course with all aphorisms coming together with you!
